A Saintly Switch $45 A Saintly Switch is a made for TV comedy film directed by film director, Peter Bogdanovich and produced in 1999 in by Walt Disney Animations, first exhibited on The Wonderful World of Disney. The plot revolves around an aging NFL quarterback and his stay-at-home wife switching bodies. The resultant comedy focuses on family values as she has to handle the highly-physical job while he has to handle art classes, bonding with his children, and morning sickness. The movie was dedicated to the memory of Dave Waymer by its writer and producer, Sally Hampton, whose experience as an NFL wife (Hampton and Waymer were married in 1981) was the inspiration behind the story. Hampton said she had loosely based the lead characters on their personalities and, ironically, the lead actor, David Alan Grier and Waymer share the same July 1 birthday and Hampton, was born late afternoon of July 29 making her birthday only hours away from the July 30 birthdays of lead actress, Vivica A. Fox and director Peter Bogdanovich. Adding to these coincidences, principal photography of the movie began on June 29, 1998, what would have been the 17th wedding anniversary of Hampton’s marriage to Waymer. |

Chesapeake: Exploring the Water Trail of Captain John Smith $12.95 This richly illustrated, informative, and inviting book intertwines two fascinating stories of discovery. The first, among the earliest classics of New World adventure, recounts Captain John Smith’s exploration of Chesapeake Bay 400 years ago; the second revisits this stunning landscape as it is today—both to showcase its still-unspoiled splendors and to issue a timely warning of looming threats to its vibrant but fragile ecology.Dozens of dazzling full-color contemporary photographs evoke the Chesapeake spirit in all its many moods, while a wonderfully wide-ranging selection of archival images span the four centuries since John Smith first sailed, rowed, and wandered its woods and waterways, mapping the wilderness shores of an untamed America. The author, a veteran naturalist at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, has spent decades leading tours and teaching classes about the region. An ideal guide, he shares both his delight in the Bay’s glorious diversity and his deep concern for its future. In addition, his unique blend of experience, environmental sensitivity, and historical expertise offers modern visitors a rare opportunity to discover the Chesapeake as Smith did so long ago, leaving beaten paths and familiar waters behind to learn why Congress will soon designate it as the first of America’s official National Historic Water Trails. For history buffs, conservationists, armchair travelers, tourists planning a trip, and anyone who simply loves first-rate nature photography, this beautiful book more than meets the high standard readers have come to expect from National Geographic. |

Color Management in Digital Photography: Ten Easy Steps to True Colors in Photoshop $29.95 Color management is one of the essential elements, yet major stumbling blocks in digital photography. The vast majority of digital photographers really wish they didn”t have to be concerned with color management, yet the basic process of moving images from capture to print becomes impractical without it. And the more sophisticated the photography workflow becomes, the more important it is to manage colors from capture to print. In this book, Brad Hinkel simplifies the language of color management. It is based on classes and workshops the author has given to hundreds of students of digital photography. His process for color management is intended to provide enough information to create a simple and effective system allowing the user to get on with photography – focus on creativity instead of technology. However, the fact that this book suggests a simple approach to color management does not mean it sacrifices quality and effectiveness. Simpler is usually better – if it works. |

Intersecting Tango: Cultural Geographies of Buenos Aires, 1900-1930 $27.95 In the early part of the twentieth century, Buenos Aires erupted from its colonial past as a city in its own right, expressing a unique and vibrant cultural identity.Intersecting Tango engages the city at this key moment, exploring the sweeping changes of 1900-1930 to capture this culture in motion through which Buenos Aires transformed itself into a modern, cosmopolitan city.  Taking the reader through a dazzling array of sites, sources, and events, Bergero conveys the city in all its complexity.  Drawing on architecture and gendered spaces, photography, newspaper columns, schoolbooks, “high” and “low” literature, private letters, advertising, fashion, and popular music, she illuminates a range of urban social geographies inhabited by the city’s defining classes and groups. In mining this vast material, Bergero traces the profound change in social fabric by which these diverse identities evolved, through the processes of modernization and its many dislocations, into a new national identity capable of embodying modernity. In her interdisciplinary study of urban development and cultural encounters with modernity, Bergero leads the reader through the city’s emergence, collecting her investigations around the many economic, social, and gender issues remarkably conveyed by the tango, the defining icon of Buenos Aires. Multifaceted and original, Intersecting Tango is as rich and captivating as the dance itself. |

Excerpt: A Saintly Switch is a made for TV comedy film directed by film director, Peter Bogdanovich and produced in 1999 in by Walt Disney Animations , first exhibited on The Wonderful World of Disney . The plot revolves around an aging NFL quarterback and his stay-at-home wife switching bodies . The resultant comedy focuses on family values as she has to handle the highly-physical job while he has to handle art classes, bonding with his children, and morning sickness. The movie was dedicated to the memory of Dave Waymer by its writer and producer, Sally Hampton , whose experience as an NFL wife (Hampton and Waymer were married in 1981) was the inspiration behind the story. Fox and director Peter Bogdanovich . Adding to these coincidences, principal photography of the movie began on June 29, 1998, what would have been the 17th wedding anniversary of Hampton’s marriage to WaymerPlot At the film’s opening, Dan and Sara are experiencing marital fallout. According to their pre-teen children, Clark and Annette, they both underestimate each |

Picturing composition: Snapshot photography and the writing classroom. $49.99 What happens when students in an English Composition course use their own photographs and picture-taking experiences to inform their own writing? This is the question at the heart of this dissertation. To answer the question, I studied four of my own classes at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a commuter college, during the 2004/2005 academic year, in which students used their own personal images as a basis for writing and also took new photographs of their neighborhoods, experiences, and rituals that helped them craft essays rich in visual and textual detail.;I witnessed my classes grow into learning communities where students would share photographs and writings of their home environments. As my students photographed and wrote of their worlds, they learned to create sophisticated texts centered on their lives, their neighborhoods, and their interests. In crafting and sharing personal essays rich in visual and textual development, these commuting students learned much about their own composing process and about each other; I in turn, as a teacher and as a reader, gained a rich understanding of my students’ lives far removed from the classroom.;In chapters One and Two, I offer foundational theories from composition, photography, English literature, and anthropology to help frame the study. I examine the creation of a student-centered classroom and the pedagogy that supports the assigning of projects in a composition class that combine students’ own photographs and picture-taking experiences. In chapters Three, Four, and Five, I bring the reader into the classroom with me and discuss and give examples of three picture assignments while focusing on the pedagogical theories that placed me in the critical multipositionary nexus of teacher, observer, and researcher. |

Dressed in a fluffy tutu, wearing her pink pointe shoes, and dancing so gracefully, she’s what every little girl longs to be. But what does it take to make that fantasy come true? Thanks to the charming, illustrated Prima Princessa, would-be ballerinas will enjoy a privileged peek into the dancer’s world. The fairy-like Princessa ushers readers into New York City’s famous School of American Ballet (SAB) in Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts—the finest dance academy in the U.S. and the starting point for most of the New York City Ballet’s ballerinas. Through stunning photography, they’ll enter SAB’s classrooms and get an intimate look at how elite dancers train. The visit begins in a pre-ballet class, moves to SAB’s Children’s Ballet Division (11-year-olds), and finally arrived at the near-professional Advanced Ballet classes (16-year-olds).
